Hearing aid support for child patients with hearing difficulties

Provided for

  • Infants under the age of 2 (36 months) diagnosed with hearing difficulty from households with 180% of the standard median income or below
  • Supported only for cases of bilateral hearing difficulty and in which the average hearing threshold of the ear with the better hearing ability is in the range between 40 and 59 dB, which cannot obtain a hearing disability classification
    (Excluding child patients with disability classification)

Support details

  • 1 hearing aid provided for each infant
  • The standard hearing test shall be conducted at a university hospital-level institution
  • 2 sessions of auditory brainstem response (ABR) or auditory steady state response (ASSR) conducted at an interval of longer than 1 month (At least 1 ABR must be included.)
  • Only cases where the hearing threshold for 2 tests show a difference within 10 dB will be recognized
  • Based on the average threshold of the better result of the 2 tests
  • In principle, the wearing, testing, and verification of hearing aids shall be conducted at the agency at which the hearing aids are prescribed

Documents needed

  • ID of the pregnant woman
  • Application for hearing aid support (filled out during visit to public health center)
  • Copy of each of the prescription for the infant hearing aid, results report of the hearing test, and the hospital medical record
  • Scanned copy of the bankbook
  • Additional documents: Proof of leave of absence, where applicable (health insurance fee immediately prior to leave of absence for less than 1 month; salary statement for 1 month of paid leave of absence or longer)
