Guro-gu has a large industrial complex that includes the headquarters of Korea Industrial Management Corporation and Seoul Onsu Industrial Management Company etc. Guro-gu was also at the center of Korea’s export/import drive that led to industrial growth. It is a transportation hub that connects Gyeongin and Gyeongsu- Highway through Gyeongbu and Gyeongin railways and No. 1, 2, 7 subway lines.
Located in the southwest of Seoul, its area size of 20.15㎢ account for 3.3% of the total Seoul area. It has Yeongdeungpo-gu, Geumcheon-gu to the east, Gyeonggi-do Bucheon-si to the west, Gyeonggi-do Gwangmyeong-si to the south, and shares a boundary with Yangcheon-gu in the north. It is divided into two regions by Anyang River, but has relatively strong connection with Gyeonggi-do Bucheon Gwangmyeong -si. A greenbelt area (4.8㎢), a scenic area(2.1㎢), and a number of undeveloped areas still remain in Oryu 2-dong.
In addition, there are many places that are not developed including transferred factory spots that have the potential to be developed as a main area for distribution, transportation, and commerce in the southwest area of Seoul due to the location of the Gyeongin-road axis. Many of the undeveloped areas have the potential to be developed into thriving locations in the southwest area of Seoul in the 21st century in accordance with economic and social conditions.
