1949. 8. 13, the Seoul administration district was expanded under executive order NO. 59 issued by the president. The administration district expansion was the first to occur after liberation from Japan in 1945, and it caused a major change in Seoul in terms of area size and population. Guro-gu was called Gurori before the NO. 10 [Modification of names of dong-ri of the city of Seoul] ordinance was issued in March 1950. Guro-gu was under Yeongdeungpo-gu jurisdiction.
63.1.1 The Seoul administration department expansion included Siheung-ri, Doksan-ri, Garibong-ri etc., and Onsu-ri, Cheonwang-ri, Oryu-ri, Gaebong-ri, Gocheok-ri etc. of Buchun-gun Sosa-eup in Yeongdeungpo-gu. There were two branch offices under Yeongdeungpo-gu jurisdiction. Gwanak branch office had jurisdiction over Siheung- dong, Doksan-dong, Garibong-ong and Oryu branch office had jurisdiction over Oryu-dong, Gaebong-dong, Gocheok-dong, Gung-dong, Hang-dong, Cheonwang-dong, Onsu-dong etc.
1980 4.1 Birth of Guro-gu (21 administrative dongs were separated from Yeongdeungpo-gu to form Guro-gu). Guro became a center of a development plan under executive order NO. 9630. Guro-dong, Garibong-dong, Doksan-dong, the southern region of Yeondoeungpo-gu, formed Guro-gu which included Guro-dong, Garibong-dong, Doksan-dong, Siheung-dong, Gocheok-dong, Gaebong-dong, Oryu-dong, Gung-dong Onsu-dong Cheonwang-dong, Hang-dong, some parts of Sindorim-dong.
1995.3.1 Due to the separation of Geumcheon-gu, Doksan-dong, Siheung-dong, Garibong-dong etc. have been included within Geumcheon-gu. The current Guro-gu includes Guro 1·2·3·4·5·6·bon dong, Garibong 1·2 dong, Gocheok 1·2 dong, Gaebong 1·2·3·bon dong, Oryu 1·2 dong, 19 administrative departments of Sugung-dong and Sindorim- dong, Guro-dong, Garibong-dong, Gocheok-dong, Gaebong-dong, Oryu-dong, Gung-dong, Onsu-dong, Hang-dong, Cheonwang-dong, etc. and consists of 10 administrative districts designated by the law.
The Seoul Guro-gu name /region committee co-ordinances NO.808 (2007.12.28) made up 17 administrative departments and 10 administrative districts designated by law as Guro 4-Dong and Guro 6-dong were integrated to become Guro 4-dong, and Garibong 1-dong and Garibong 2-dong were integrated to become Garibong-dong. Furthermore, ordinance NO. 830 (2008.9.26) made up 15 administrative departments and 10 administrative districts designated by law as Guro 2-dong and Gurobon-dong to were integrated to become Guro 2-dong, and Gaebong 1-dong and Gaebongbon-dong were integrated to become Gaebong 1-dong
